Your School Adobe Account Is a Loan.
Your Personal Account Is Yours.

Your school-provided Adobe account belongs to the university, not to you. It shuts off roughly 15 to 60 days after your last enrolled term, and anything left inside can be deleted. Plan around that from day one.

1. Never delete your personal Adobe account. You can stop paying tho.

If you are paying for a personal plan and want to stop, cancel the plan. Do not delete the account. Canceling drops you to 5GB of free storage but keeps your account, your Behance, your Portfolio, and your purchase history alive. Deleting is permanent after 27 days.

2. Copy files with Adobe’s own tool: filetransfer.adobe.com

It runs in both directions, school to personal and personal to school. It copies rather than moves, so nothing is destroyed, and you can run it as many times as you want. Sign in to both accounts, pick your files, confirm there is room, and start the transfer. It handles cloud files from Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Acrobat, Express, Fresco, and Firefly.

3. Four things that the tool will not move. Handle these yourself.

  • Lightroom. Use the Lightroom Downloader at lightroom.adobe.com. Start early: it can take up to 10 days to prepare your archives, and they expire 14 days after they appear. Albums, ratings, and flags do not survive the trip.
  • Behance. Leave it on your personal account permanently. There is no migration path.
  • Portfolio. Leave it on your personal account. Adobe can move a Portfolio site from school to personal, but not the other way around. If you put your portfolio on a school account, you'll lose access to it when the account closes.
  • Adobe Fonts. Activations never transfer. Re-activate fonts in whichever account you are signed into.

4. Back up locally before you do any of this.

Back up your Creative Cloud files, Lightroom originals, and library exports to an external drive or Google Drive. Nobody at the university will do this for you, and nobody can recover it once the account closes.

5. Put a calendar reminder 60 days before graduation that says “run filetransfer.adobe.com, school to personal.”
