Assignment
Photoshop + vector Smart Objects from Ai + texture illustration project
Your assignment this week is to discover some vector illustration inspiration and incorporate this into a new drawing via Ai Smart Object workflow in Photoshop.
Step 1
Use the list of vector Illustration inspiration above and/or the list of vector Illustrators shared last week, to identify a vector illustration style or effect that you wish to merge into this weeks illustration.
- Save a copy of the reference image or create a reference/mood board file to share.
- Be prepared to discuss it in review; you should know the artist's name/work.
Step 2
Leverage both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create a new, original, layered illustration that incorporates some vector artwork that is clearly influenced by or an hommage to your inspiration.
- Use a vector tool (Adobe Illustrator on desktop/iPad or vectors in Fresco) to create your vector stuff.
- Create a new Photoshop file: square, around 5k or 6k pixels.
- Open your vector artwork in Adobe Illustrator copy and paste it into your Photoshop file as a Smart Object (example links above).
- Pro tip: As shown in class, you can continue to edit the Smart Objects vis Adobe Illustrator from Photoshop.
Step 3
Add any additional elements and finishing touches to your hybrid vector/raster illustration.
- Vectors are usually graphic and flat. Introducing contrasting elements is a great way to control what the viewer focuses on.
- Consider adding textures, noise, or grain to better blend or isolate the foreground/background.
Bring upload for class next week
- One reference image or reference/mood board file
- One LAYERED photoshop file and any related working files, scans, etc...
- Compositions should be 6"x 6" at 300ppi or square around 5k or 6k pixels
- I have created a new Google Drive directory for this project: svaMFAI_20221212-vector-smart-object-and-raster-Ps-drawings
